Rhian Cooke is an artist based in Leeds, making work across film, photography, animation, sculpture and installation. Her work draws connections between mental landscapes and local environments, moving between scales, the real and imagined. Cooke makes her work with handmade processes including textiles, drawing, and recycled materials. She takes a sculptural approach to filmmaking, emphasising movement and physical textures. Inventive and playful, her works experiment with different techniques of animation and layering. She manipulates her creations to seem as though they are magically performing. Her work comes to embody an ethereal quality, translating materials into dreamlike worlds
